I have been selling on eBay for over 10 years and it is fun and rewarding. I have learned several important lessons in the past 10 years. This article will explain what you must have if you are going to be successful as an eBay seller.

I started selling baseball cards on eBay and did fairly well. The problem is that eventually I ran out of cards I wanted to sell. I then started selling various products from around the house. Guess what? I eventually ran out of things to sell. I then realized that I needed a steady, reliable wholesale supplier of product or better yet a dropshipper. After selecting several suppliers, I realized that finding a good dropshipping company or wholesaler is very difficult. Many of the companies took my money, charged very high fees, or simply didn’t have the product in inventory when I needed it. Before selling on eBay make sure you have these three things.

Dropshipper – I use dropshipping because I don’t have to buy the product before I sell it. Many people make the mistake of buying a bunch of product at wholesale prices and then trying to sell it on eBay. What happens if you don’t sell it? You want to only buy products after you sell them on eBay. Once you sell the product then you order the product and have the dropshipping company send the product to your customer.

Low Fees – Many dropshipping companies charge very high fees and make it very difficult to make a profit on eBay. Make sure the company you select charges low fees. I think a dollar or two is a reasonable fee for most products. Of course you want to make sure they don’t raise the shipping charges on you as well.

eBay Listing Tools – The dropshippers I use have tools that allow you to list a product on eBay at the click of a button. This process saves a tremendous amount of time. If I don’t have to worry about creating listings, I can focus on what products sell and customer service.

Before selling on eBay make sure you find a reliable dropshipping company. It will make your life so much easier.

Improve your picture: In all that description writing, you might have missed the vital importance of your item’s picture. A picture with bad lighting or an intrusive background looks amateurish and won’t make anyone want to buy from you.

Add an About Me page: You’ll be surprised how much you can reassure bidders just by creating an About Me page and putting a little bit about yourself on your business on there. You can also have a few special offers there for people who bother to look at the page, and let people subscribe to your mailing list so that you can email them updates.

Write terms and conditions: Have the ’small print’ clearly visible on all your auctions, giving details of things like shipping times and prices, your refund policy, and any other business practices you might have. This helps build confidence with buyers.

Show off your feedback: Copy and paste a selection of the feedback comments you’re most proud of to each item’s description page, instead of making bidders go and look for it. If you have 100% positive feedback, be sure to write that on every auction too.

Add NR to your titles: If you have extra space in a title, put ‘NR’ (no reserve) on the end. Bidders prefer auctions that don’t have a reserve price, and doing this lets them see that yours don’t.

Benefits not features: Make sure your description focuses on the benefits that your item can give to the customer, not just its features. This is a classic sales technique. If you have trouble with this, remember: ‘cheap’ is a feature, ’save money’ is a benefit.

List more items: If you want more people to respond to your items, then list more items! You might find you have better like listing items at the same time, instead of one-by-one. There’s no need to use a Dutch auction – you can just keep two or three auctions going at once for an item you have more than one of in stock.

Accept unusual payment methods: To reach those last few buyers, accept payment methods that many sellers don’t, like cheques.

Buy some upgrades: The best upgrade is the most expensive one, which makes your item appear first in search results. In crowded categories, you might find that this is worth the money.

Once you’ve got some buyers, you want to keep them coming back to you. The next email will show you how to turn one-time buyers into long-term customers.

Well, let’s say you’re an Internet marketer and a new kind of web 2.0 site comes into existence and you write a book on how to use it to market your products. Well, at first, the book may be very popular because the site is new. But over time, the novelty of the site will wear off. For all you know, the site itself may even shut down. At that time, your book is totally useless. This might happen in a week, a month, a year or even several years, but the point is, the shelf life of a product like this is usually limited.

So, when creating products, you want to think about problems that you know are going to be around for a very long time. That’s the best way to assure yourself of creating a product that will also be around for a very long time.

Next we get to the actual content of the email itself. We live in a world of WIIFM, or what’s in it for me. If you don’t give the reader a reason to not only read your email but buy your product, you’re sunk. This means providing them with relevant content in regard to the subject matter itself. You might want to send a newsletter with tips on how to do something related to your niche. The reader has to walk away from the email saying “Thanks, that helped me a lot” or you haven’t done your job.

One thing that most people don’t even think about is the service that they use to have their emails delivered. I personally use Aweber because they have a great reputation and their delivery is great. Many marketers think that they can get the same kind of results from a cheaper company or worse, emailing from their own servers. Let me tell you right now, emailing from your own servers is suicide. One spam complaint, even if it’s not a valid one, can get your ISP to shut you down. Plus, you’ll never get the same delivery rate simply because you won’t be able to keep up with the blacklisting of your domain like a pro company can.

What’s this eBook about? It is an eBook on Blogging for Business. Now then, there are a couple of reasons to keep the price on an eBook low especially an eBook on the subject of blogging. For instance, you must remember that your eBook competes with other books and eBooks on the market. These books might be slightly better or more highly recommended by their fake blogging friends (fake because most of these people add themselves as friends, but have never actually met).

Under $20 by a hair is a good price to sell a boat load of eBooks if you choose to sell them, but if you have a specialized niche and you make the book really packed with information then you could charge a lot more, or give it away and call it an $88.00 value – “Yours for only $49.00 when you sign up for another program, offer or consulting services.”

Now then, in this case study, if this was an actual book on the shelves of Borders or Barnes and Noble you would have to compete with the “For Dingbats” series and their blog book is $21.00 “Blogging for Ding Bats” and the competing book “The Everything Blogging Book” which is $14.95 – I own both in my library, both good neither are what a Business Blogger needs necessarily.

8. Make sure your auction does not end during peak bidding hours. Make it a bit after 9 p.m. And you will see a better result.

9. Watch your shipping costs, try and keep them reasonable. Check with your dropshipper, UPS, or post office to see how much you will need to send the item, and charge accordingly.

10. Try to avoid negative feedback. Make sure you describe the item correctly, so there will be no confusion about what the bidder expects. Also try to make sure the item gets to the seller in a timely manor.

11. PayPal is your best bet when collecting money from bidders. It is a safe way for you to receive funds without taking credit cards yourself. PayPal offers a debit card that gives you immediate access to your money as soon as it is posted in your PayPal account.
